Cant put symbols on Gorbakh's Mace (the quest one) - tried this myself.
As far as the rune goes: the weapon its ranked as a Two-Handed with Generalist style.
The only rune that would work would be the BC one. But the description on rune says: "It can be built into a level 6 and above Bonecrusher main weapon". So the rune will most likely wont work also.
