What Every New Player Should Know    Zebedee [0] quote
18:43 , 25 May 2009
This is not a guide telling you how to play the game or a strategy guide, but some information about what you should really know about the game that most new players don't figure out until they are a higher level or until they fall foul of Faeo's justice system.

1) There are players with an orange M symbol by their names, they are Mentors, you can ask anything that you don't know about the game or can't figure out.

2) One player can play only one character. Creating 'multies' or 'alts' is absolutely forbidden. If two people are playing from one computer, you have to write each other's names in both your infos. If you want to start again and play a different character, never log into the old character again. It will get auto-deleted after a certain time. If it was in the game for a little while, then ask a Guard to put your old character in jail.

3) It follows from 2 that you absolutely cannot start a new character and transfer gold/items from the old character to the new. You will very quickly have both characters in the jail, and it will cost a LOT of gold to get them out again.

4) Guards are a special clan of players who are entrusted to serve other players by ensuring the game rules are kept. You can tell them by their clan symbol of a man with a pointy beard. Their clan link is: http://www.warofdragons.com/clan_info.php?clan_id=91

5) The chat rules are strictly kept by the Moderating Guards and the Mentors. If you break them, you can expect to be gagged from anything from 1 minute for a mild infringement to 90 days for a recurring very serious chat offence.

6) If you spot anyone else breaking the chat rules, for example if someone insults you or swears at you in private chat, then if you right-click on the time-stamp of the offending message, then all the Guards and Mentors online can see the message and if necessary give a verbal warning or gag the offending player.

7) People will not be giving new players free items, as it's against the rules to give armour or items to other players. The trade rules are complex, but as a rule of thumb until you know what you're doing - don't give anything away for very cheap or free, and don't accept free or cheap items from friends. You may log in to find yourself in jail otherwise. if you don't know what cheap is, ask a Guard or a Mentor. If you have some kind of deal that you want to do with friends about trading armour for items or non-standard prices, you must ask a Guard about it before doing it, or write in Trade section of forum - http://www.warofdragons.com/info/forum/forum.php?f=30 for Mags, http://www.warofdragons.com/info/forum/forum.php?f=31 for Humans.

8) The game is potentially free to play, but to make a strong character without paying real money, you need to have much patience and be prepared to spend much longer at every stage than friends who might after a few months be several levels ahead of you. Paying for the game involves buying diamonds through various payment schemes such as credit cards or PayPal, which can be traded for the game currency, Gold.

9) You will find the game is much more complex and sophisticated than you first think it is. It is an excellent idea to take a character through the early levels, to level 5 or 6, without investing too much, if any, real money in the game, to give yourself a good idea how you would like your 'ideal' character to develop. Then start again from scratch with a new character, investing money in it according to your wishes and budget.

10) This is a war game, and sometimes it can seem a bit tough. You might be attacked and killed by players of the opposing race, or even your own race. You might receive hexes or attacks by monsters summoned by players of either race who are stronger than you. There is no point complaining if this happens to you; as long as they use game mechanisms to attack you, and are not verbally insulting you, then it is all legal gameplay. Just store their names for when you are stronger, or for when you make strong friends.

11) It is bad etiquette in the game to join other people's fights without being invited, or without asking first. If you join a fight by accident, saying sorry and staying in blocked mode to try and avoid taking the loot will avoid bad feeling. On the other hand, if you want to create a character who steals loot whenever possible and annoys other players, that's perfectly legal - but expect a life of injuries, hexes, broken armour and bags and not many people willing to help you out when you need it!

12) Injuries are expensive to heal, and healers only make a tiny margin, if anything at all, on the charges they make. They also invested a huge amount of gold to get to L2/3 or more of their profession. Never expect, or ask for, free heals, and don't ask for blessings either as they are not free to give and it looks low to more experienced players. If you get blessed or healed by a healer for free, a thank you is always appreciated.
This character is under investigation for deceipt and fraud (possibly account of ex-Mentors/Guards used by his relatives).

Well, I am a new (Human) player, and I want to know how it is that you can attack another player.

I've been jumped twice now, and I am starting to figure out when (and where!) I need to be wary- but I have no idea how it is you go about attacking "the enemy".

Do you have to click on a special icon? Or are there only certain locations where Maggies are vulnerable to PvP attacks?

Is there a thread I can read that will answer all these stupid n00b questions (and then some)?

Cheers

Megapenthes on the bottom right part of the screen there is a list of players currently in location. All humans will have a red arrow, meaning, a private message button, prior to their names. All magmars will have a sword next to them. Clicking on the sword will either start an attack on that magmar, or let you enter an already existing fight.
Tell a man there are 300 billion stars in the universe and he will believe you. Tell him a bench has wet paint on it and he will have to touch it to be sure.

Someone finally told me about it, and I actually got to enter into a fight against a Maggie (one who was an even bigger n00b than I, it seems).

Revenge is sweet, and best when served cold.

Would you say there is any thing else that is essential to know about PvP combat- any threads that I (or others) might find of interest?

How do you do these things? I've had people join my battles, and steal the loot, multiple times, and would like to be able to warn them that, if they do it again, they will pay. It gets frustrating, especially when they come in at a time that you know the little i has had time to come up, regardless of lag, do it repeatedly, and refuse to block.

Could someone point me to info on my question or something, please? Even if it's in game. I'd gladly return charges incurred, for the post.

Most of the people who've joined my fights accidentally apologize when they realize it. I write prvs to the few who don't saying "could you please block because i really need this tooth or leg or whatever the monster might drop." Most people apologize after that. I don't threaten or warn anyone because i don't feel like i could back it up at my level. Eventually, i may be harsher but for now just saying that i need the kill for the money or the drop has worked for me.
If you're lvl 3 too, maybe you should join a buff clan or get a strong friend who can intimidate rude thieves for you.
I don't think there is any way to enforce that courtesy rule but this game relies so heavily on your how your actions show what kind of person you are that i think a repeated thief would be noticed and punished in some other way indirectly maybe. I know this isn't that helpful, sorry, but it's what i do.

I ask people to block. Some do, some do it automatically, without being asked. One said never. I always apologize and block, when I accidentally enter someone elses battle. The ones that tick me off most, are the ones that join repeatedly. In the post I quoted, there was mention of things that could be done. I'm in a great clan, with an executioner. I'll sick him on repeat offenders. I've considered jumping in their battles, but, that would make me no better than them.

Oh! Sorry. Thank you, too, for at least attempting to answer my question.

If i accidentally join a battle because there was no icon on the kretch or whatever it is i am hunting to warn me of another player being there i normally just hit it, and tell them to do the same, gets us both onto the next fight faster than waiting and 99% of the time the beginging fighter gets the $$ anyway.
If it happens a no of times i appologise, and move on to a new area.
NO big deal to me it is a game and meant to be fun, and light hearted after all>:)
